Mental ill health has only recently been recognised as a 'disability' giving the service users the same standing in law as a physically disabled person. However, mental illness is still stigmatised in society and does not always evoke the same empathy and understanding as the other disabilities.

A wider debate around the latest developments in this sector is of paramount importance in order to reduce the public prejudice and stigma that surrounds mental illness.
